Word started leaking out in Las Vegas earlier that Donald Trump’s “major announcement” is to back Newt Gingrich, and sources are confirming it to POLITICO. The announcement is expected to come at an 12:30 p.m. press conference tomorrow that The Donald is holding. The move is a bit unexpected since Trump had talked even within the past few days about how he may be compelled to run a third-party campaign   Read More ...

With the South Carolina primary five days away, the tea party movement has accelerated its efforts to leverage what is likely its last opportunity to influence the Republican nomination process. The movement has thus far struggled to coalesce behind one candidate. Despite Mitt Romney’s victories in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire and endorsements from the likes of conservative South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, he has yet to win the   Read More ...

The exit polls following the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary showed something remarkable that somehow missed the evening news: Paul consistently won the votes of the young, the disaffected, the independent, as well as discouraged Democrats. CNN’s exit polls in New Hampshire showed Paul winning almost half the voters aged 18-29 (compared to Romney’s 26 percent), and splitting the vote with Romney in the 30-to-39 age bracket. Paul   Read More ...

Mitt Romney cruised to a solid victory in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, picking up steam from his first-place finish in the lead-off Iowa caucuses and firmly establishing himself as the man to beat for the Republican presidential nomination. “Tonight we made history,” Romney told cheering supporters before pivoting to a stinging denunciation of President Barack Obama. “The middle class has been crushed,” in the past three years, he   Read More ...

Despite the fact that Ron Paul is polling in second place in New Hampshire, and rapidly closing the gap on Mitt Romney, according to the latest polls, one CBS reporter did her best to convince viewers that Paul does not even exist. It’s a familiar picture for Paul supporters who have had to watch over and over as mainstream media talking heads and pundits have consistently either laughed off the   Read More ...

Rick Santorum emerged as the latest conservative alternative to Mitt Romney in Tuesday’s Iowa caucuses, placing second to Romney by a mere eight votes. Santorum, a former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, currently holds a “B-” rating from Gun Owners of America. That indicates he was with us for much–but not all–of the time he was in office. It is troubling, therefore, that Santorum still hasn’t returned the GOA presidential survey.   Read More ...

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich assailed rival Mitt Romney on Friday, accusing him of paying for abortions with tax dollars and raising taxes on blind people. In a conference call with South Carolina supporters, Gingrich said Romney is a “Massachusetts moderate in the same tradition as Michael Dukakis and John Kerry” and raised “hundreds of millions of dollars” in taxes including on blind people. Gingrich had pledged to run   Read More ...

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, angry over his poor performance in the Iowa caucuses, may have a new and unlikely partner in his quest to tarnish rival Mitt Romney: President Barack Obama. Though they both wish to win the 2012 election, Obama and Gingrich share an agenda in bringing down Romney, who won the first Republican nominating contest in Iowa on Tuesday. Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of   Read More ...

Mitt Romney, able to seize the offensive in Iowa’s Republican presidential contest, turned overnight into a front-runner on the defensive as rivals stepped up attacks on the former Massachusetts governor in advance of New Hampshire’s pivotal Jan. 10 primary. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich spent much of yesterday in New Hampshire targeting Romney, calling him “a person who accommodated liberalism in Massachusetts.” He also questioned Romney’s truthfulness U.S. Representative   Read More ...

Newt Gingrich voiced enthusiasm for Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts health care law when it was passed five years ago, the same plan he has been denouncing over the past few months as he campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination. “The health bill that Governor Romney signed into law this month has tremendous potential to effect major change in the American health system,” said an April 2006 newsletter published by Gingrich’s former   Read More ...
